I think you are very spot on with Sharepoint. Part of the problem is they are burdened with getting it to integrate with the rest of the Office suite and to get it to work with lots of legacy systems and varied hardware.

The feature set of Sharepoint 2007 was probably locked down in 2004 as they went through the process of coding the software. In that lens, Sharepoint looks fairly good against the social tools widely used in 2004 (there were not that many).

I expect that there will be a similar problem with the next release. I assume Mr. Finn is currently in the process of locking the feature set of next release. So it will probably look compared to the tools widely available right now. But will probably pale in comparison to the tools available in 2 years when it starts going into production.]]></description>
